Students of Lamitan National High School in Basilan surf the Internet, send e-mail, and chat with friends and relatives overseas using the computers and internet connection provided by USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program. Through its Computer Literacy and Internet Connection (CLIC) project, implemented in partnership with Parent-Teacher Community Associations, the GEM Program is helping to bridge the “digital divide” by promoting computer literacy and information technology among schools in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and conflict-affected areas in Mindanao. To date, the GEM Program has assisted approximately 700 schools through the project. GEM is being implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Economic Development Council. (GEM)
