A new concrete-and-steel hanging bridge (left) built in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City, has replaced the decaying wooden walkway (right) which was the only access point for local residents who needed to cross the Tumaga River. The facility, constructed by USAID's Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program in partnership with the barangay local government and the city government, is one of 830 barangay infrastructure projects built by the GEM Program throughout conflict-affected areas in Mindanao in collaboration with local partners. Approximately 1,000 similar projects will be constructed by GEM and its partners over the next five years. The GEM Program is being implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Economic Development Council. (GEM)
