Members of the Central Mindanao Vegetable Industry Development Council (CEMVIDEC) display their harvest of sweet pepper, grown near Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, through its Targeted Commodity Expansion Project, assisted the group in acquiring food-grade plastic crates designed to maintain the quality and freshness of produce being transported to markets. The GEM Program is working with regional vegetable associations like CEMVIDEC to enhance the competitiveness of vegetable growers in Mindanao by training its members on good agricultural practices (GAP) and post-harvest handling methods, and by helping them to identify key markets for their produce. GEM is being implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Development Authority. Published in Mindanao Times, August 3, 2010; Sun Star Davao, August 4, 2010; Business Mirror, September 3, 2010 |
