Residents of Tulunan, North Cotabato, shop at a newly-built trading center constructed by USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program under its Barangay Infrastructure Project (BIP). The facility provides local traders and farmers with a sheltered and convenient locations in which to sell their agriculture products and dry goods, which in turn leads to increased business activity in the community and neighboring barangays. To date, under the oversight of the Mindanao Economic Development Council, the GEM Program has completed 983 BIP projects, including water systems, grains warehouses, solar dryers, boat landings, community centers, and bridge and roadway upgrades, in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao.
