Students from the Tupi National High School in South Cotabato enjoy computers and unlimited broadband internet provided to their school by USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, through its Computer Literacy and Internet Connection (CLIC) project. To bring these resources to the school, GEM worked in partnership with the PTA, which will pay for the Internet subscription after the expiration of the 12-month subscription provided by GEM. More than 900 high schools in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao have benefited from CLIC. The GEM Program, which is implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Economic Development Council, also provides training for selected teachers and members of the parent-teacher associations of CLIC recipient schools, in Internet and computer skills as well as basic maintenance.
